Let’s get into some of our favorite upcycling projects.
1- Teapot Planters
First up on our list of upcycling projects are these charming teapot planters!
With just a few simple steps, you can transform any old teapot or bowl into a stylish home for your favorite plants.
We recommend using succulents, which are not only affordable and low-maintenance but also come in a variety of beautiful shapes and colors.
For best results, drill a hole in the bottom of your teapot or bowl for proper drainage.
The end result? A one-of-a-kind conversation starter that will brighten up any kitchen or dining room.
2- Upgraded Canvas Bag
We’ve all got those old jeans that are just… on their way out. Instead of tossing or donating them, why not use them to upgrade your plain old canvas tote bag into something useful and fun?
All you need is a pair of scissors, some thread and a needle (or a sewing machine), and your trusty canvas tote. Simply cut out the pocket from your jeans, and stitch it onto the bag for an instant fashion statement.
For an extra touch of personality, you can also cut out shapes like stars or hearts from the rest of the jeans and sew them onto the bag. These upcycled bags make amazing gifts, too!
3- Hanging Water Bottle Cuttings
Our next upcycling project is perfect for all the plant lovers out there, and helps reduce plastic waste!
With just a few plastic water bottles, some twine, and a stick, you can create a show-stopping plant propagation display for your wall. Start by cutting the tops off your water bottles, and then use simple macrame techniques or punch holes in the sides of the bottles and tie twine to create hanging vessels for your plant cuttings.
Tie the twine to the stick and make sure everything hangs evenly.
Then, tie another piece of twine to the top of the stick so that you can hang it on a wall.
Finally, fill each bottle with water and hang it on the wall to watch your plant cuttings thrive.
4- Floppy Disk Pen Holders
Let’s take a trip down memory lane with our next upcycling project! If you were a 90s kid, you probably have a stash of those colorful plastic floppy disks lying around. While they may no longer be useful for the computer, they can be transformed into a super creative and quirky pen holder.
All you need are 5 floppy disks and some super glue.
Glue 4 standing disks onto a flat floppy disk and hold them each in place until they’re dry.
Once they’re completely dry, you’ll have a retro-style pen holder for your desk.
This project not only adds a playful touch to your workspace but also helps get rid of electronic waste.
5- Upcycled Sock Cup Sleeves
These adorable cup sleeves will not only keep your drinks warm, but also give you a laugh because they’re made from upcycled socks! We all have that pile of socks with holes or lost partners, and this project is the perfect way to give them new life. All you need is a stretchy old sock, scissors, and some thread and needle if you want to make it look polished. For a no-sew option, simply cut off the top of the sock and slide it onto your cup, mug, or bottle. For a sewn version, cut off the top of the sock and sew a seam at the top. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and raid your sock drawer for this fun and easy upcycling project!
